Institutional observers

A university lab, employer, medical group, intelligence unit, or open-source community that detects the anomaly; bureaucratic adoption becomes a symptom rather than an external conspiracy.

Consolidated from the development brief (§8.5, §4.4). The brief is the canonical source: story/development-brief.md.

Working design (brief §8.5)

A university lab, employer, medical group, intelligence unit, or open-source community may detect the anomaly. Avoid generic villains arriving solely to weaponize it. The more distinctive possibility is that institutions independently reconstruct the same topology because the projector is selecting histories in which it reproduces. Bureaucratic adoption becomes a symptom rather than an external conspiracy.

Institutions as eigenpatterns (brief §4.4)

Often the strongest modes are institutions, protocols, markets, religions, bureaucracies, standards, or self-reproducing machines. The protagonist’s fatal mistake is to assume the world’s growing alignment means he has become the dominant eigenvector.

Guardrail (brief §13)

Transformative people are not inherently good, chosen, or more real. Institutions and systems may dominate them.

Open decision (brief §14)

Public exposure: secret garage tragedy, open-source replication cascade, institutional scale-up, or a hybrid in which the pattern spreads without public understanding.

Established continuity (Chapter 14)

  • Evan's employer adopts only a useful engineering decision structure; no one outside Evan and Lena knows about the projector or its causal-history model.
  • Firmware, test, safety, and program-management staff independently extend the five-gate method after a successful motor release, while an automated archive creates an ordinary peripheral link to Evan's rejected imaging proposal.
  • The operations organization begins a company-wide pilot through normal meetings, documentation, and voluntary approval. Bureaucratic adoption is therefore both beneficial in local terms and a symptom of broader capture.

Established continuity (Chapter 15)

  • A confidential research-safety consortium receives Lena's redacted incident record after Evan recreates runnable capability during the review session.
  • The intake receives no source, build tools, runnable image, personal identity, address, or employer information. Its reviewer acts competently by resolving a cryptographic evidence manifest under a no-replication request.
  • Evan has secretly made that ordinary verification request a live projector input, turning the first external containment institution into an unwitting participant without conspiracy or public exposure.

Established continuity (Chapter 16)

  • The consortium's qualified contractors safely destroy OLD-7 and every remaining garage controller component while preserving the immutable evidence escrow and its closed access state.
  • Evan's employer independently implements a motor safety supervisor whose live topology reproduces rank collapse without garage hardware, code, libraries, or toolchain. The safer motor behavior remains real and useful.
  • Nadia and the consortium limit the system to an isolated bench and commission a blinded attribution study rather than either dismissing the result or scaling it publicly.

Established continuity (Chapter 17)

  • The consortium holds the opaque package mapping for a preregistered study crossing clean-room provenance, two hardware benches, live versus broken feedback, Evan's presence, and consequence depth.
  • Active consequential topology predicts every anomalous block; person, source, hardware, and matched physical trajectory do not. Institutional depth predicts stronger collapse.
  • The consortium calls the destroyed garage apparatus the initial reference implementation, retains the motor system under independent change control, suspends release-gate consequences, and removes Evan from operation as a sound experimental control.

Established continuity (Chapter 18)

  • Corporate governance records and the evidence consortium's case index remain individually valid while conflicting with preserved signed records of the five-gate method's origin and Lena's disclosure.
  • The company's ordinary safety dashboard exposes only a delayed, signed, read-only motor-status feed. Evan cannot affect the motor but unilaterally makes its fresh events inputs to D-01, extending causal coupling without breaching the remote system.
  • The isolated motor bench continues scheduled verification blocks while qualification consequences remain suspended, supplying D-01's external contingency without returning operational authority to Evan.
