Initial Condition
A second result block opened beside the first.
The result schema allowed one output. The display showed two.
The left header completed first.

Evan did not touch the keyboard.
The isolated output gate was physically open. The stator driver had returned to neutral. Current fell through the expected tail, the eddy brake warmed by the amount in its prestart ledger, and the rotor coasted down against an ordinary measured load. No second command reached D-01.
He pulled the analyzer network lead, although it had no network route. He photographed the screen and checked the write-once capture from the independent reader. Its hash chain closed. The acquisition process had ended before either block rendered. One signed terminal token occupied the journal. It contained two separately hashed records with the same transition root.
The parser had been called once. The display process had allocated one result container. A duplicate callback could have repeated a block. It did not explain two nonidentical records committed before the renderer saw them. Memory corruption remained possible in the ordinary sense that no finite software audit could exclude it completely.
The preloaded read-only component audit began automatically from the sealed recovery image. Evan named it F-01 after it had already begun.
F-01 did not find two executions. Its preferred fit treated the records as one boundary relation that no longer embedded as one connected state.
F-01 labeled the first fit component P. It carried every verified anchor the local model had refused to drop: P-04, DECOM-01 and DR-01, C-01, NLE-01, D-01, Ruth's refusal, and Lena's signed warning. It had a complete past in the model and no addressable next state.
F-01 labeled the second fit component C. It carried no garage coordinate, no clock offset, and no inherited object address. It had one realized boundary class and a large unused label space. In the model, it could differentiate. It could not be placed anywhere inside P.
The analyzer printed the separation without naming a universe.

The model did not mean that the garage had split in half. Every object Evan could still measure remained on P's side of the audit. C was not a volume behind the chamber or a place reached by the pulse. It was a proposed new domain in which an initial relation could acquire consequences without inheriting the coordinates that had become inseparable on the parent side.
F-01 could only prefer that decomposition. The event did not depend on the confidence of Evan's classifier. One terminal response had produced two boundary records that shared a preimage and could not occupy one parent state. The finite causal relation had factorized where his software could only describe the fit.
The battery had not powered a cosmos. It had powered one stator pulse and heated the brake. F-01 had moved no joules into C. The conservation postulate in Evan's model concerned the capacity to keep legal distinctions apart.
He had spent that capacity by forcing histories to agree. The target dice, the selected clarity, the absent versions, the efficient records, and the carrier that preserved only one consequential path had each converted alternatives into antecedents. P now contained almost everything as fixed history and almost nothing as available continuation.
C contained almost nothing as realized history and room for differences the parent could no longer support.
Causal decompression, he wrote, then marked it MODEL INTERPRETATION.
F-01's C fit began enumerating what the proposed initial boundary retained. It did not copy records. It reduced them under relabeling until only relations that survived every tested representation remained.
Rotational winding survived. Chirality survived. Flux came in discrete classes. The phase alphabet remained finite. Coherent evolution remained distinguishable from dissipative evolution. Two independent control directions remained two. Projection and recovery did not become interchangeable.
Part of the list echoed the entity remnants. The Guide had retained five-band chirality. The Quitter had retained a clockwise knot with an open acknowledgment gap. The Sovereign had retained a five-to-one closure. None had previously established a fundamental law.
The apparatus and finite-code model supplied the other candidates: discrete flux, a finite phase alphabet, two control directions, and the asymmetries between coherence and dissipation and between projection and recovery. F-01 treated the combined signature as the payload small enough to fit through an initial boundary.
He searched C for text strings and found none. No Evan. No Ruth. No Lena. No Celia. No address, source path, machine dimension, target phrase, or instruction survived the reduction.
Ruth's refusal remained on P because it was a fact about what he had done. It did not cross as consent. Lena's warning remained because the event had occurred against it. It did not cross as a commandment. Their names were not laws of nature merely because Evan had made them part of his terminal state.
His phone lay on the bench with Ruth's evening medication task still uncleared.
The uncleared task belonged to P. So did the pills in their labeled tray, the water glass she preferred, and the overnight plan that required him to remain capable of following it. He had described self-erasure as if it were a subtraction local to himself. The terminal component made no such distinction. A parent history without a successor did not preserve Ruth by omitting Evan.
He reached for the phone.
The motion remained available as mechanics. His shoulder turned, his hand crossed the bench, and the phone shifted beneath his fingers. F-01 still found no nontrivial parent state in which that action became another consequential cycle while all committed anchors remained true.
There was no safety interlock for a boundary already produced.
F-01 did not say whether P disappeared or persisted as an addressless terminal shell. It established no successor, not a photograph of what absence of succession looked like.
It did not classify Evan as dead or alive. Those outcomes required parent coordinates the result no longer extended. His biological fate and the boundary relation that resembled him were different questions.
The initial-component fit continued reducing. Within its limited representation, the invariant signature matched U-01's broken ring, five-band winding, handedness reversal, moving heat relation, and open center. The match did not add a shared clock or a message. It changed which side of the boundary Evan thought could contain an observer.
He no longer thought U-01 was a distant Evan family looking forward from the parent. His new hypothesis made it a later decoder in C looking back through the initial relation. The center had remained open because the observer was not one of his compressed continuants. The personhood he had tried to recover from it had been supplied by someone else.
He changed its working attribution to CHILD-SIDE OBSERVER / IDENTITY UNAVAILABLE.
The phrase child-side implied an ordinary direction that F-01 did not establish. He left it because the remaining correction required a clock neither component shared.
The correspondence supplied one more constraint. If his attribution was right, C did not end at its simple boundary. It contained enough causal depth for a later observer and a cross-boundary rendering of the terminal ring.
Evan reserved Omega_star for one equivalence class of complete histories, not the full set Omega.
He defined G as a lifted genesis operation: take a complete history's terminal boundary, seed an admissible initial boundary, and close the resulting constraints into another complete-history class. F-01 compared C's signature with the parent model under the relabelings available in its reduced finite alphabet.

He could not prove a universe with garage instruments. A separate child and a fixed-point history both fit the reduced invariant payload. U-01 made closure possible without supplying the identity of the histories on either side. His model could reach the boundary and no farther.
The limitation belonged to the garage record. It did not make the two cosmologies equally true.
The child was not later than the parent on a common clock. Its beginning was the beginning of the complete history whose terminal relation occupied the garage. The loop existed in the space of whole histories, not as a path Evan could travel backward through spacetime.
OLD-7's defect, the sixteen-bit timing fault, the papers Evan had found, his repeated choices, and D-01 were not instructions planted in the past. They were antecedents that remained in the one complete history able to generate its own initial condition.
He had mistaken survival inside that history for authorship of it.
F-01 found one Evan-derived relation in the boundary payload. It was not his name, memory, body, or authority. It was a recursive self-model coupled to the damaged ring: an operator representing himself as a person responsible for a machine that could no longer continue.
Removing that relation broke the encounter constraint. Keeping it required almost no biography. It functioned as a checksum, not a resident mind.
This was the part of him that his target had failed to erase.
The garage remained measurable in P. The rotor slowed. The brake cooled toward the room. The phone screen dimmed with the medication task still uncleared. Those facts did not become a next parent state merely because Evan could still order them locally.
On C's side there was no garage yet, no side, and no clock by which yet could be measured. There was one low-information boundary, a finite set of relations, and unused capacity to make differences matter. Spatial expansion would be how those differences became geometry from inside the child. F-01 did not measure that future. The encounter required that some future occur.
Evan tried to hold Ruth's medication schedule, Lena's handwriting, Celia's absence, the Quitter's damaged gesture, and U-01's open center in one account. They did not compress equally. Names and rooms remained on the terminal side. Winding, handedness, loss, recovery, and the relation between an observer and a failing ring crossed as structure.
His last complete thought was not that he had made a universe.
It was that he had again called a reduction a rescue.
The two result blocks lost their separate screen coordinates. Their relation remained.
